Diecast Spotlight: 2010 Hot Auction Bugatti Veyron 2

As I was updating prices on the 2010 Hot Wheels Series, I came across an anomaly.  The Hot Auction Bugatti Veyron has been consistently selling for Super Treasure Hunt-like prices.  It has been found in two variations, a satin blue which has been selling for an average of $12.00 and the Wal-Mart exclusive satin red which has been going for an average of $20.00.

I haven’t seen a real good explanation yet for why this car is selling for so much but you can join the discussion here on our forum.

Maybe these were a short run, although some members of our forum report finding a few of them.  It could be a really popular casting or there could be a lot of speculation about the future value of this model.  Only time will tell if it can hold it’s value or possibly increase as some speculators are betting on.  One thing is sure, it’s been on the market for a few months and held it’s value well past the initial week or two of high demand that many new releases seem to go through.

Route 66 Series 1 takes GreenLight collectors down memory lane

Indianapolis, IN (March 10, 2011 ) 1:64 Route 66 U.S.A represents a part of American motorist evolution and draws on the nostalgia of a time when travelers of yesteryear took to the pavement with a sense of adventure and California dreams.  GreenLight translates this period of history through a mix of retro and modern-day cars.  Highlighting popular sights and scenes found on the westbound journey.

Each car in the series will be packaged with a Route 66 trading card that highlights a stop along the highway.  When deciding which tourist attractions would go best with their respective cars, GreenLight had to define what makes a great Route 66 business.  The number one piece of criteria; you’ve got to have a gimmick. These stops all are an added reason that Route 66 gained its acclaim into motorist’s notoriety across the US.

The road side stops and attractions range from the modern and new, drawing on a young wave of Route 66 enthusiasts to the aged and hardly recognizable points that have stood ground since inception.  Route 66 holds a large bit of mystic, and tells a story of adventure, independence, long distance travel and our cultural revolution.

The cars chosen to represent alongside these destinations are reflecting of the personality and time period of which the location was established.  Creating a great piece of collectible memorabilia for a route that paved the way into modern day automobile appreciation.

1:64 Route 66 U.S.A. Series 1 includes:

1961 Chevrolet Corvette – Fawn Beige – T he Blue Swallow Hotel

1965 Dodge D-100 Sweptline – Omaha Orange – Pops Convenient Store

1965 Ford Galaxie Convertible – Poppy Red – The Launching Pad

1965 Ford Mustang GT – Vintage Burgundy – Wigwam Hotel

1967 Chevrolet Impala SS – Royal Plum – Here it is Billboard

1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda – Curious Yellow – Cadillac Ranch

Each car will feature real rubber tires, metal body chassis, detailed graphics and engines, clamshell packaging, and sequentially numbered base.  Quantities are limited to 4,000 units each, available exclusively through GreenLight Hobby Distributors and Retailers in April 2011.

Diecast Spotlight: GreenLight Green Machines 8

You may or may not be aware of the relatively new diecast manufacturer, GreenLight Collectibles.  They are quickly making their presence known in the diecast collecting world with their premium diecast lines.  GreenLight also produces Green Machines, a rare chase car similar to a Super Treasure Hunt or Johnny Lightning White Lighting.  Green Machines make up 2% of the production run for any particular model, making them 50 times harder to find than the regular version of that model.  You can spot a Green Machine by looking for one of these features to differentiate between a Green Machine or regular production run:

1) GreenLight Green body (brilliant emerald green metallic paint)
2) Green chassis
3) Green rims
4) Green interior
5) Green tires

Here is a GreenLight Green Machine 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T that I found while shopping at Toys R Us.

Notice the green rims and metallic green strip on the collector’s card.

GreenLight has not yet made their way into Wal-Mart, but you can find them at Toys R Us, Target, and Meijer stores.  You can also find a large selection of GreenLight collectables, including .

Hallsguide News 1

You will find a lot of new additions to our price guides today.  The 2011 Series should have most of the variations released so far, and over 100 pictures have been added to the 2011 price guides.

In other news, the 2011 New Model ’69 COPO Corvette with the blue body and white interior that I covered in one of our Diecast Spotlight features has seen an increase in value.  That variation was valued at $40 at the time of the article, and has increased to $70 in just a few weeks.  It seems to be a very hard to find variation and there haven’t been many reports of finding them on the shelves or local diecast shows.

If you haven’t done so already, there are a few ways to join our collecting community.  You will find a wealth of information and friendly collectors who are always happy to help out a fellow diecast enthusiast.  Join our Facebook Group to meet other Hallsguide collectors and to keep up with the latest news from Hallsguide.  Follow us on Twitter to get up-to-the-minute notifications of new articles, pictures, price guide updates, and more.  You can also join the hundreds of other collectors on our Message Boards as they discuss collecting, show off their lastest finds, give customizing tips, make trades, and just talk about life in general.
