Diecast Errors 68

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is:  “How much is this diecast error worth?”  The answer is:  It varies.  Most are worth a couple of dollars more than a non-error although some may approach the $100 mark.  It really depends on the error.  More sought-after castings will command a premium for their errors and common castings will demand less.  One of the more popular errors, lately, has been the no-tampo error.  Some castings, especially muscle cars, just look cleaner with no tampos and these are often popular errors on the secondary market.

Wheel errors are another type of error frequently seen.  These include mismatched wheels or as is often the case, all small wheels or all large wheels, when the back wheels are normally larger.  Here is a recent example of an all-large wheels error found on a Ford GT.  This one sticks out like a sore thumb as the front wheels are way to large on the top car.

Another type of common error is when the car inside doesn’t match the blisterpack.  This Pontiac GTO showed up in on a Treadator card.

I personally think the GTO is a better casting but it’s an interesting piece regardless.

Oftentimes an error will get confused for a variation but they aren’t the same.  A variation is when something on the casting or packaging is intentionally changed.  Variations often carry a higher premium because many people will buy them to complete their sets, or they may try to buy every variation of a certain casting.

Either way, collect what you enjoy and you can’t go wrong.  If you have errors you want to show off or you would like to see what our other members have found, check out the errors thread on our forum.

If you are looking to buy or sell any type of diecast, including errors, visit DiecastMarket.com.  Here you can sell at no risk because there are no listing fees.  And because the low (5%) selling fee beats Ebay and other competitors, buyers don’t have to worry about all the fees being passed onto them as high “shipping and handling.”  Buyers can also take advantage of our “Buy Now” feature with no expiration, effectively giving you a no-cost online storefront.

I have a 90’s model Mercedes convertable. Top portion of the car is black metal and the lowe4 portion is grey plastic, making it a two tone. The interesting thing is that the card specifies the same model, however, it also says in the top left corner that the doors open. They clearly do not. It is a solid body, both the metal and plastic parts. Is there any idea as to the value to any collector? I’ll have to get it out of storage to tell what collector number it is. But that would not be a problem.

I’ve got a 2010 series Infiniti G37 with the base mislabelled as an ‘Infinity’ G37. Does it have any value yet, or were there too many of them with that error to be worth anything yet?

I got a Lancia Stratos hot wheels for my son. It has a large chunk of excess metal in the wheel well, stopping that wheel from spinning. I already took it out of the package. I dont care how much its worth, i am just looking to trade someone who has a functioning one, same model.

i have collected for a while m but the most interesting is the errors #1, #2, and #3 of the Pinstripe Power series in which my recent purchase has been the #3 VW error. What makes this so unique is that the #3 I recently purchased from Ebay is from the Bug Splat Series. About 15 or 16 years ago what I purchased from a store was a Pinstripe Power Series Error ( I believe it was the #2 of 4) also a VW Bug from the Surf N Fun Series. I saw Maybe #2 of 4 because a couple years about 1999 or so I was on Ebay and there was an auction for another Pinstripe Power Series Error, Whether #1 of 4, or the #2 of 4 doesn’t matter due to the fact that the purchased error was also a Surf N Fun VW. Yes I have had for the past decade and a half I had had two VW error Pinstripe Power Series. That is until recently. Now I can understand an error or two, but I currently have #1, #2, and #3 of 4 Pinstripe power all VW. Could there be a #4 of 4? If so imagine the value to me the collector, Not in money but the quest to acquire.

Has anyone ever reported a hot wheels car that has the car name misspelled on the metal base? I have been collecting for many years and have never heard of this. If this is as rare as I think it makes me reluctant to even mention what car it is without more information. That said I have shown this to dozens of non-collectors using magnifying glass and all have agreed on the car name being misspelled. Any comments will be greatly appreciated

I have a Jeep Trailhawk Matchbox that is upside down in the package and has a tail light mis print error. I don’t see a $100 value in it but it is a limited production anniversary run. So I could be wrong. Will most likely list on eBay and see what happens.

I have a few packages, or backing cards that have printing error. On the back, the logo HotWheels is missing the “w”, it reads “Hotheels.” I have more than 5 of these misspellings and I have some that spelled correctly. Probably few people read the information on the card backing. Is there any value in the misspelled cards? Seems odd that they would misspell their trade name.

I recently bought an Auburn 852 from the 1999 Pinstripe Power Series, however when looking at the bottom I saw that it was dated 1978. I looked up the real 1978 and 1999 versions just to be safe and found that I indeed have the 1999 version. I’m confused by this error and am having a hard time finding a value on an error like this. Could you give me an idea of what I could get on something like this?

  • Colleen

Hello. Just a few days ago we were going through our recent hot wheels purchases and sorting them out to be put away with the rest when I noticed something weird about the green skull shaker I was holding. The car packaged has all four wheels small. It looks from behind like the car wouldn’t even be able to slide on the floor as the back wheels are to small for the cars frame. Have you heard of any of these ones and would you know what it may be worth? Thanks

  • Jacqueline Brumley

My husband and I recently found a hot wheels Knight Rider “KITT” car with the front wheels missing.
Would this be worth anything or where can I find out?

  • Thomas Taylor

Today I found a new in package scoopa di fuego Loki edition. Missing the side decal. And the number on the bottom of the car. Doesn’t match package number

I have a Hot Wheels CLASSICS Yellow 40s Woodie black interior , black roof , light tan wood with all small black wall , non hi-raker. The list on the back of the card says its #65 and all I know that its #51 , because I have another one on the correct card. Wondering if this an early print error of the card ? Worth more ? Some of the later #51 cards are pulling some great money… I’m curious on what I have and love this yellow variation of the 40s Woodie

  • Garrett Davis

I have a 1998 Sugar Rush Series #3 ‘95 Camaro. And onal the guides all I see is the “Malaysia” plastic base. And mine I have two. One with the Malaysia base, and one with a India. Is that worth anything ?!?

  • Garrett Davis

I have a 1998 Mixed Signals series #4 School bus. On all the guides it says the price varies between if the hot wheels logo is on the side door or back door. Mine has no hot wheel logo anywhere on it, and it’s still in package. Is that rare ?

  • Adrian

I purchased a Hot Wheels ID ’66 Batmobile and doesn’t have any interior in it. It’s still sealed in the box. Would this be considered an error and how much would it be worth?
