Is This the New Holy Grail of Hot Wheels?

The Hot Wheel Redline Club ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser has been making waves this week as an auction for one numbered #0001 out of 4000 has passed the $15,000 mark on E-Bay.  It will end Monday night at 9:30 CST.  Recently this model was selling for an average of $550 on Ebay.  There is currently another one, #53 of 4000 that is over $1300 right now on Ebay.

Is this the new trend in die cast collecting?    Would you drop big bucks for an item that there are 4000 of?  Does it make a difference if it’s numbered 1 of 4000?  Either way, the dynamics of collecting high end diecast is changing.  It will be interesting to see where this one ends up.
